I met Erin and Bair for the first time at our engagement session; something that seems to be happening more frequently these days as couples are trying to cut back on the enormous amount of time it takes to choose vendors. I liked them right off the bat. They’re a very interesting couple who met several years back when they were both working at Grady (hospital, not high school) and have a magical (and humorous) engagement story where they were kayaking off a remote island when the wind kicked up. Having done my share of kayaking in rough water, I can understand why Erin pulled up to a tiny little patch of land for a rest. On that little island (barely room for both to stand, from the sounds of it), Bair pulled out the ring and proposed. That’s so cool. And if your engagement can survive a two person kayak (they refer to them as divorce boats in the kayak world), then I think they’re off to a great start. They certainly photograph well! Check back in May for their wedding photos.

I had a great session with Ana & Jason where we did their engagement photos at two locations that had a lot of meaning for their relationship. Obviously, if you read my blog on a regular basis, I love doing that. I’m always surprised when a couple wants to know if I’ve shot at their location before, like if I haven’t that’s a bad thing. I love shooting at new places and I think lots of other photographers do as well. It’s the thrill of finding that perfect spot that you’ve never seen before. But I digress. (I’m Southern. Digression is in our DNA.)
We first met at a playground where Jason proposed. They were sitting right where you see them below on the swings and Jason told Ana this story about having had a conversation with a women in the airport about providing the diamond (this is where I get fuzzy on the details) for her granddaughter’s ring. He then finished the story by handing her the ring (which I think he designed, am I getting this completely wrong guys?) and telling her it was actually her grandmother he wast talking to. It was a great story, even if I didn’t get it completely right. I love people’s engagement stories, but I work with so many people they sometimes run together a little in my head…
We then moved over to The Brick Store in Decatur. Again, if you read my blog you know I love Mike Gallagher and the Brick Store/Leon’s Full Service crowd. If you’ve never been, do yourself a favor and go to both of them. You can even take Marta as it drops you right around the corner. Oops, I’m digressing again. This is where they met. It’s one of Jason’s favorite hangouts and Ana got called one night to come and drive a group of friends home after everyone had one too many Belgian Whites. From being around them I think it was fireworks from that point on. Check back in June to see their wedding photos!
